David Helberg, CIA, CRMA
Chair of the North American Board, 2026–27
David Helberg is the 2026-27 Chair of the North American Board and a 2026-27 Director of the Global Board of Directors of The IIA. With extensive chapter- and national-level leadership experience, including roles as Canadian District Advisor and Chair of the Canadian Board, David has served on the North American Board since 2022 and the Global Board of Directors since 2025.
David is Chief, Internal Audit Services & Corporate Ethics and Privacy Officer at Cameco Corporation (NYSE: CCJ; TSX: CCO), one of the world’s largest providers of uranium fuel, supporting a secure and sustainable energy future. He has been with Cameco for more than 15 years and is accountable for the internal audit, corporate ethics, and corporate privacy functions.
In his role, David leads the internal audit function, strengthening the organization’s ability to create, protect, and sustain value by providing the Audit and Finance Committee and management with independent, risk-based, and objective assurance, advice, insight, and foresight. He also oversees Cameco’s corporate ethics and compliance program, fostering a culture of integrity, transparency, and accountability across the organization. In addition, David is responsible for the corporate privacy function, safeguarding personal information and ensuring compliance with applicable privacy laws and regulations. His expertise in these areas supports Cameco in navigating complex legal and regulatory environments while maintaining strong ethical business practices.
David has served for the past seven years as a member of the Audit Committee of Joint Venture Inkai LLP, a significant uranium mining operation located in Kazakhstan and jointly owned by Cameco and the Government of Kazakhstan through Kazatomprom.
Within The IIA, David serves as a Certified Quality Assessor for The IIA Quality Assurance Services and as a Qualified Facilitator for The IIA Facilitator Program. He is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and holds the Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA).
