Chapter Officers

Established in 1941, The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is an international professional association with global headquarters in Lake Mary, Florida, USA. The IIA is the internal audit profession's global voice, recognized authority, acknowledged leader, chief advocate, and principal educator. Generally, the members work in internal auditing, risk management, governance, internal control, information technology audit, education, and security.

MISSION

The Houston Chapter of The Institute of Internal Auditors is a professional association of internal auditors involved in promoting professional growth and progress for the practice of internal auditing.

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

• To provide value and service to our members in Houston, Texas, principally through effective education, training, and certification programs.
• To build the profession of internal auditing locally through enhanced training and programs to target groups, including supporting targeted universities.
• To promote the global internal audit profession through contributions of resources (human and financial) to research and professional programs, primarily through The IIA.

Hello, everyone. As we do each June, the IIA Houston Chapter has welcomed a new slate of leaders, while several returning leaders—including me—have stepped into new roles. We are grateful to the many volunteers who have raised their hands to guide the Chapter through this transition.

At the same time, some Chapter leaders have retired or redirected their time and attention elsewhere in the profession. We extend our sincere appreciation to these past leaders for their contributions to the IIA, our Chapter, and the internal audit profession.

As you read this message, we are well into the second half of 2026 and continuing to navigate significant change. Geopolitical and regional conflicts, natural disasters and climate extremes, and evolving political and policy developments are affecting both our professional and personal lives.

Within internal audit, these forces are accelerating a fundamental shift: our function is evolving from a reactive, compliance-driven role into that of an anticipatory strategic advisor. We are moving beyond traditional financial control testing to address digital disruption, AI governance, cybersecurity, and a broader role in risk management.

To thrive in this environment, we must continue broadening our capabilities in three areas:

• Technical fluency: Strengthen our knowledge of data analytics, AI, and cloud governance.
• Strategic foresight: Anticipate emerging risks and opportunities and advise stakeholders with confidence.
• Human-centered strengths: Apply professional skepticism, critical thinking, communication, and storytelling to deliver actionable insights.

The IIA and our Chapter remain committed to providing learning opportunities that help you build these capabilities. Whatever your role in internal audit, keep learning, growing, and embracing change so that you are well positioned to deliver the high-quality work and meaningful value your stakeholders expect.
