Building Awareness Champions
We are pleased to be a 2023 Building Awareness Champion!
During Internal Audit Awareness Month in May, we shared our passion for internal auditing, promoting the profession through a variety of events and campaigns designed to inform and engage, raise awareness, and help stakeholders understand the value of internal audit in their organizations.

Another chapter year is upon us! I am grateful for all of the groundwork that has been laid by our previous leaders which will give us the momentum needed to make this a successful year. There are so many exciting changes happening that will impact us as audit professionals, many of which will cause us to think outside the box as we embark into unfamiliar territory. Whether it is the role Internal Audit will play in ESG and Cybersecurity, the current work being completed to reshape the IPPF, or embracing the future of Internal Audit’s digital transformation, now is a great time to be an auditor.
There are a lot of exciting things happening within the IIA this year. The first is offering free memberships to our university students. This is a huge opportunity for us to get in front of these students who will be the future of the IIA and our chapter. I want to give a big shout out to Jodi Bailey for all the time and energy she has spent to really reshape and accelerate our efforts in the classrooms. We are already seeing great engagement from the university leaders which is translating into students beginning to consider internal auditing more actively as a profession.
The next major thing to highlight is the IIA’s renewed focus on advocating for the profession. With all the potential legislative changes occurring, now more than ever is when we as auditors need to be sure we are raising our voice and championing the skills possessed to demonstrate the value Internal Audit can bring to companies. Through this, we can build stronger relationships by building trust and visibility and participate in active bipartisan engagement, all while exploring new ways to enhance our access and relevance.
Finally, I want to issue a challenge to all members of the chapter. The only way we can be successful going forward is through the efforts put in by our chapter volunteers. Volunteering within our chapter has given me a greater appreciation for all the work needed to run the chapter. It has also given me enhanced insight to the changes that are occurring rapidly within the IIA and the Internal Audit profession. I would encourage you to get more involved with the chapter. Whether it is through micro-volunteerism by helping at specifically targeted events, serving on a committee within the chapter, or even serving as a chapter officer, the more diversity we can bring the better we can serve the variety of members we have across the state.
