Is Internal Audit ready for ESG?

Session Overview

The IIA Global Perspectives and Insights document on The ESG Risk Landscape identified Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) issues as “top priorities for companies, primarily driven by demands from stakeholders and governing bodies”. As well, the report further identified the complexity of ESG reporting and the evolving nature of reporting standards.

The report also highlighted that independent assurance on the design and efficiency of ESG-related processes and controls will soon be essential to the work of internal audit, just as Internal Audit evolved from focusing only on financial transactions to a broader scope including compliance, operation and cyber risks.

In this session we will:

  • Review the regulations and timing of ESG requirements.
  • Examine the requirements and practical approaches to readying Internal Audit.
  • Review strategies to help get a seat at the ESG table.
  • Overview of technological solutions that may assist your organization.
  • Examine strategies to upscale Internal Audit staff knowledge and training.

After attending the session, attendees will be able to:

  • Identify and utilize ESG resource sources.
  • Identify and utilize ESG reporting standard bodies.
  • Identify gaps in their Internal Audit shop with regards to ESG.
  • Position IA to be at valued ESG resource.
