Welcome to the IIA Florida West Coast Chapter

General Information
The chapter is made up of more than 600 IIA members who live and work in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Hernando, Manatee, Sarasota and Polk counties in west-central Florida, commonly referred to as the “Tampa Bay” region.

Some key milestone in the history of the Florida West Coast Chapter:

• 1966 – Chapter established, 14 members
• 1970 – Certification program approved
• 1971 – First Audit Scope published
• 1973 – 14 CIAs in Florida West Coast Chapter (Grandfathered, no exam)
• 1974 – First CIA exam, 793 candidates in 41 locations
• 1980 – Chapter has approximately 120 members
• 1984 – Established member recognition awards for 10 Year Anniversary
• 1985 – First full-day seminar is offered
• 1991 – Audit Scope wins 2nd place worldwide for Outstanding Newsletter
• 1995 – Chapter has over 250 members
• 2001 – Last printed Audit Scope newsletter
• 2002 – TampaBayIIA.org is established for its website
• 2003 – May is proclaimed “Internal Audit Awareness Month”
• 2005 – Seminar package pricing is introduced
• 2010 – Chapter membership exceeds 600
• 2015 – Chapter celebrates its 50th Anniversary
• 2019 – Chapter has over 600 members and is “Ruby” for the 5th year

Welcome to the 2021-2022 Chapter year. I am Kristina Simmons and I am the President of the Florida West Coast Chapter of the IIA. Hopefully we can all put 2020 and most of 2021 behind us! Given the challenges 2020 and 2021 brought, I am very proud of our chapter’s successes. From holding numerous virtual seminars covering a variety of topics to growing our membership and certifications, I think it is safe to say that COVID did not keep us down!

Congratulations are once again in order for our chapter, as we achieved Ruby status for 2021! Ruby is a prestigious status awarded by the IIA to chapters that demonstrate the achievement of goals aligned with the IIA North American Strategic Plan. This achievement would not be possible without the strong leadership and hard work of our Officers, Board of Governors, and volunteers.

I am very excited to see what this chapter year will bring! We had an amazing first-ever-in-a super-long-time in-person summer planning and board meeting this past summer where we came up with some exciting initiatives and plans for the year. We had a great turnout and met many new volunteers. We have some exciting things planned for seminars, academic relations, and member appreciation.
