Chapter History: The IIA - Miami Chapter (#12)
Onββ June 28, 1945, eleven internal auditors joined together to form the Twelfth local organization of the Institute of Internal Auditors - the Miami Chapter.
In June of 1995, the chapter celebrated their 50th anniversary. At that time the chapter had grown to include almost 300 members from 130 different organizations in the South Florida area. We celebrated with a special – and very festive - meeting where the IIA President, William G. Bishop, III, the keynote speaker, addressed the audience with "Challenges to the Profession." Malcolm Parker, IIA Field Service Representative, presented a special award commemorating the Chapter's 50 years to Pat Orlando, President 1995-96. There were eighty-nine attendees.
During the 2015-2016 chapter year, the 70th anniversary was celebrated at the Kovens Center at FIU’s North Miami Campus.
Over 180 people were in attendance as the IIA Global CEO, Richard Chambers, spoke on his “Lessons Learned on the Audit Trail” and how internal audit groups should assess the culture of their respective organizations. There was a also special presentation to recognize the past presidents.β Over the years, the meetings have changed venues and the topics have expanded with the changing landscape of the internal audit environment, but a few things appear to be constant – commitment of individuals to support, enhance, and develop the profession of internal auditing. Past accomplishments have included numerous achievements to the IIA “Gold” status for Chapter Achievement Points, hosting Regional Seminars, as well as Examination sites for the CIA, CCSA (Certification in Control Self-Assessment), CGAP (Certified Government Auditing Professional), and CFSA (Certified Financial Services Auditor).
From the initial membership of 11 internal auditors in 1945, the Chapter has grown to a “large” chapter by the IIA standards, currently reaching a membership of almost 800 professionals as of June 2018.

Dear IIA Miami Chapter Members and Friends,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 Chapter year! It is an honor and privilege to serve as President for the Miami Chapter. This year, we have a wonderful team combined of new and familiar faces who are committed to continue to provide you with the value and resources you need to succeed in the internal audit profession. As we adapt to the “new normal”, the Miami Chapter and its strong group of passionate individuals are planning exciting programs and initiatives that will adapt to the current world’s conditions and will allow for all our members to continue to get the value they have been getting for years.
My mission for our Chapter is to be able provide value to our members while navigating through the current challenges we face today. It is during challenging times that we have to make sure that we keep a few things in mind; that we are more dedicated than we give ourselves credit for; that effort reduces the risk of failure and increases the likelihood of success, and as such, is a great investment of your time; that consistency is key to anything you want to master and succeed at; after all, practice does make perfect; that discipline will make you feel like the most powerful person in this world to improve anything about yourself; that motivation teaches you that you should not limit your challenges, but instead, you should challenge your limits; and most importantly, that you should only do things with passion, or not do them at all. I want to encourage you to be the best version of yourself, because you only get one chance to be the best version of yourself.
We will be adapting our events to be safe and interactive to make sure we provide you with both CPEs and the ability to remain updated and continue developing your network. We will also update you as soon as we are able to go back to doing our exciting one day Conferences; however, for the time being, and for the safety of our valued members we have opted out of having any in-person conferences for the rest of 2020. Nevertheless, we will hold online webinars to be able to continue providing CPEs. Upcoming meetings, conferences, events, initiatives, and latest chapter news can be found on our chapter website, through our frequent email newsletter communications, and on our active social media groups on LinkedIn and Facebook.
As our Chapter continues to grow and excel, we welcome and appreciate your support, feedback and involvement. Whether you have an idea for an event/training opportunity or if you are looking to volunteer and become a committee member, we want to hear from you! Please feel free to contact me at president@iiamiami.org
I would like to extend my sincerest appreciation to the Board of Governors, to our amazing Officers, to all of you who have volunteered with our Chapter and all of our members for your continued participation. The success and achievements of the Miami Chapter are a result of your interest, dedication, support, and involvement.
If you have any questions throughout this chapter year, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for being a part of the Miami Chapter.
Very truly yours,
Janine Wolman,
IIA Miami Chapter President
